Sequence® 90 Cubic Inch Strainer Baskets are great for those applications that demand a debris basket so that it will damage your external pump, or for retaining a small amount of water to prime the external pump. In short, Sequence strainer baskets work both as leaf baskets and priming pots.

Use the 500 ci priming pot in applications that demand large debris interception to prevent damage to the external pump
For applications where an external pump is located above the elevation of the pond surface, the pump must be manually primed before use. Priming a pump is the process of filling the pump and lines with water so when the pump is turned on, it will start pumping water immediately. If an external pump is not primed properly, the pump will only contain air and won’t pump any water!
A priming pot greatly simplifies the process of priming an external pump. The priming pot is placed next to the pump, connected to the pump via PVC pipe and/or fittings. As long as a check valve is installed at the water intake in the pond, the priming pot can be manually filled with water to completely fill the priming pot, the pump and all pipes between the pump and water intake. The check valve at the water intake is what prevents the water from leaking back into the pond and is an essential part of this process.
Once the priming pot is filled with water, the pump, that is now full with water, can be switched on to begin operation.
Another application where the Sequence Priming Pot / Strainer Basket is useful is in situations where unfiltered water is being brought straight from the pond into the pump. Without some kind of pre-filter or pond skimmer, the water from the pump intake may contain leaves or other debris present in the pond. The Sequence Priming Pot has a built in strainer basket that will filter out leaves and other debris to keep it from entering the pump.
