The ProfiClear Premium filters use a high pressure pump to keep the tiny perforations in the sieve clean automatically. The powerful pump draws significant wattage during operation, but only operates a fraction of the time to keep total electrical usage  minimal. When the pump is not running, the filter only uses 5 watts of electricity.
